Regularly shipping goods is a key facet of many businesses. Some companies have been shipping items for decades while some star-ups may be looking to complete their first batch of orders. Either way, good packaging matters.

Shipping items via courier is often the easiest way to have your items delivered both domestically and internationally. During transit, it is likely that your parcel will be subjected to pressures and forces that the contents would not be able to withstand without adequate protection.

AtComplete Transport Solutions, we recommend that you consider if your box and its contents would survive a drop test.

First, make sure that you have an open and clear space where you can drop your parcel without it damaging anything or becoming an obstacle.
Then simply hold your parcel at the designated height listed below and drop it.
If your parcel remains intact and its contents are unscathed then your parcel is ready for shipping.

Product Packaging
Most items that will be shipped by courier can comfortably fit inside a regular cardboard box. Other items such as bikes, musical instruments and artwork should be shipped in specialist packaging.

Good Packaging
No matter what you ship, having confidence that your item will arrive to its destination intact is important. While the following steps may not apply to every product that needs to be sent, it holds true for the majority.

Making sure that your item is well cushioned is the single most important way to ensure no damage occurs during transportation. Before you start the packaging process, be sure to have either polystyrene peanuts or packaging paper ready.

Start by pouring packaging material onto the base of the box. You want to have a layer of packaging material covering the base.

Place your item (having your item in a box that fits inside the larger box is often the safest packaging method) on top of the layer of packaging material.

Add more packaging material, make sure that the sides of the item are cushioned from the sides of the box. Once you have filled the box with packaging material, close the box and give it a good shake. If you can hear movement, you will have to add even more packaging material. Movement inside the box indicated that your item can move about during transit; this is what causes damage to your item.

The final step is to seal your parcel. Do this by wrapping packaging tape around the seams of your box. AsComplete Transport SolutionsWe recommend wrapping the tape around your box at least 3 times. Attach your labels and you are ready for collection.

How to Package Glass

Before you start to package your glass items, be sure that you have the correct packaging materials.

First, wrap your glass items in paper. You can use any paper you wish to wrap your items, if you don’t have any paper lying around then any free newspaper will do. Wrap your items tightly with the paper, cover them in at least a couple of layers.
